When a young person with a disability turns 18, families are often told they need guardianship. For many, that is the first and only option they hear. But guardianship is a major legal decision that can affect a person’s rights, independence, medical choices, finances, education, employment, and daily life.
Families should not have to make life-changing decisions out of fear, confusion, or pressure.
DCCRGV is launching Legal Pathways to Adulthood for Texans With Disabilities, a bilingual education and resource project that will help families understand guardianship, supported decision-making, powers of attorney, legal responsibilities, and other options under Texas law.
Our ask is simple: help us raise $50,000 or more to bring this information directly to families across the Rio Grande Valley.
